IN 2006, about 300 families of Sitio Agusuhin in Subic, Zambales were forcibly evicted from their land. The government had entered into a deal with Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction Co., owner of the biggest shipbuilding facility in the country.

Militant groups welcomed President Benigno Aquino III along Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City with a rally, as they have done with previous presidents, every fourth Monday of July.

Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III took his oath of office as 15th president of the Philippines at noon today, taking over the reins of government from Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in a smooth and peaceful transfer of power.
