A misleading video compilation has gone viral on Facebook (FB) showing clips supposedly from when Hurricane Milton hit the United States (U.S.) last week. Several clips were from unrelated events.
Two Filipino FB users published on Oct. 10 the same one-minute video compilation. The following text was displayed throughout the video:
“Hurricane Milton just landfall (sic) in Florida with Wind Speed 185 mph as Category 5. October 9, 2024”
A reverse image search revealed that at least five clips in the compilation showed events in another U.S. state or a different country altogether before Hurricane Milton hit.

These posts came out the same day Milton – the fifth most intense hurricane in the Atlantic basin on record – hit the state of Florida. In an Oct. 11 speech, U.S. President Joe Biden said the hurricane caused property damages worth around $50 billion.
The two FB users’ misleading videos collectively garnered 29,400 reactions, 2,400 comments, 12,900 shares and over 4.3 million views.
