Second of two parts

With just a little over a month before the May 9 elections, candidates for president and vice president are pulling out all the stops to convince the electorate that they are right for the job.

But are they actually in tune with issues that voters most care about?

In this two-part series, VERA Files Fact Check outlined what each tandem running for the country’s top positions plans to do to address the five “most urgent national concerns” of Filipino voters, based on a January 2022 Pulse Asia pre-electoral survey.

These are:

  • controlling inflation,
  • improving workers’ pay,
  • reducing poverty,
  • fighting graft and corruption in government, and
  • creating more jobs.

In the poll, which had a margin of error of ±2, Pulse Asia asked 2,400 “likely voters” across the Philippines to state and rank three issues that their chosen presidential candidate should “immediately address” once elected.

Apart from these five concerns, VERA Files Fact Check also included each tandems’ respective plans on curbing the continued spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Part 2 of this series covers the tandems of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Sara Duterte, Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquio and Jose “Lito” Atienza Jr., and Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo and Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan.
