The annual Traslacion once again brought out the Filipinos’ deep faith and extreme piety Tuesday, Jan. 9, during the Feast of the Black Nazarene.

Millions joined this year’s mass procession, the first after a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Traslacion commemorates the transfer of the image of the Black Nazarene from the Recollect Church in Intramuros, Manila to its present shrine, the Quiapo Church, more than 400 years ago.

Many of the devotees were barefoot, relating their pain to the suffering of Jesus Christ on the cross and praying for God’s grace.
