recalibrate k to 10

PROMISE STATUS - DATE: Fulfilled as of 07/16/2024

  • The K to 10 curriculum revamp, completed in August 2023, trimmed the number of learning areas from seven to five to reduce stress on both teachers and students in meeting learning goals. The MATATAG curriculum, which focuses on development of competencies, consists of reading and literacy, mathematics and language skills, makabansa and good manners and right conduct.
  • In September 2023, DepEd started to pilot test the new curriculum in 35 schools. In its preliminary findings, DepEd and the Philippine Institute for Development Studies found that while the MATATAG curriculum improved teacher instruction, there is “no statistical difference” in the competencies expected in schools implementing the MATATAG curriculum vs in schools not yet covered by the revised curriculum.
  • The first of four phases of the recalibrated curriculum will be implemented starting school year 2024 – 2025 for kinder and grades 1, 4, and 7.
